Understanding Through Words I am based in Northern Mindanao and communicate in Bisaya. However, I am fluent in both Tagalog and English. During meetings and unplug sessions, these languages become our vehicles of communication. On occasion, I find myself searching for the right word in English or Tagalog. Nonetheless, my co-workers consistently step in, translating to ensure that everyone comprehends. This lively exchange of languages fosters not only understanding but also showcases our willingness to support one another. Learning and Forging Connections Through language, we not only learn but also build bonds. Our differences do not confine us; instead, we embrace and celebrate them. Our remote work setup keeps us connected, despite our geographical dispersion. Every interaction serves as an opportunity to refine our linguistic skills and broaden our cultural horizons. This journey of continuous learning fuels our sense of connection.     The Covid-19 pandemic left everyone shaken. In this era of the New Normal, numerous businesses have adapted by transitioning to a Hybrid Work Landscape. However, with any change, resistance naturally emerges – some may embrace it, while others may not. I perceive the Hybrid Work Landscape as a leap of faith toward people, a risk that businesses are willing to take to uphold the strong employee-employer relationship. To me, it's a privilege, a distinct advantage. When you view something as such, you're vigilant not to let it slip away; you'll go to great lengths to preserve it. Communication stands as the linchpin in thriving within a Hybrid Work Landscape. Research studies from Michigan State University underscore communication's pivotal role in human relationships. We use communication as a tool for sharing, understanding, conflict resolution, collaboration, and fostering warm, trusting connections. Getting in sync with the team mirrors the synchronization of individuals in a Dragonboat team – the boat glides across the water faster and more efficiently when everyone moves in harmony.   • Honoring Filipino Language Preserve Cultural Identity

    The Filipino language, commonly referred to as "Wikang Pambansa," serves as the national language of the Philippines. It is primarily derived from Tagalog, the language spoken in Metro Manila, the country's capital region. Buwan ng Wika is an annual celebration that seeks to emphasize the importance of the Filipino language in fostering connections among Filipinos from different regions and uniting them through a shared linguistic identity. By performing these small yet significant acts, we can show respect for the Filipino language and share our culture and identity with others. Supporting local literature is another way to honor the Filipino language. Reading and purchasing books written in Filipino not only help safeguard the language but also support Filipino authors and publishers. We can encourage our friends, family, and colleagues to read Filipino literature and share our favorite works with them. Lastly, we can learn and teach Filipino to others. Regardless of whether we are Filipinos living in the Philippines or abroad, learning and teaching our language is a powerful way to honor and protect it. By teaching others, we ensure the continuity of the language and pass it on to future generations. Here is my personal experience as an Operations Analyst while working with Bluetongue, our Australian client. We have a daily huddle where, before discussing business, we mostly talk about the weather and sometimes sports. The conversation always begins with checking in on each other. As the conversation starts, I greet them with a warm "Magandang umaga, Team! Kumusta kayo?" As expected, they are surprised by my greeting and ask me about the meaning of the words I used. I take this opportunity to explain, and they appreciate it and try to memorize the words. Now, they are familiar with and can say some Filipino words such as "Maaraw" (Sunny), "Maulan" (Rainy), and the days of the week, with "Biyernes" (Friday) being their favorite day. We can promote and incorporate the Filipino language and culture into our conversations with clients, as our company believes it fosters a deeper connection and understanding between us and our valued partners. It can start with a simple daily conversation starter with the clients, whether it's about a sport, a Filipino food, tourist spots, or anything under the sun. Honoring the Filipino language is crucial for the preservation of our cultural identity. We can promote its usage, support local literature, attend cultural events, and learn and teach Filipino to others. These actions not only demonstrate our love and pride for our language but also contribute to its growth and preservation.

  • Language of Smiles: The United Diversity of Our Team

    They say that there is no language barrier when one is smiling. And that is the gist of the story I am about to tell you. Our team, perhaps, is the most diverse in the whole of Cooee. Diverse in the sense that we come from different areas around the Philippines. Ours is the true epitome of the theme song 'Mula Aparri hanggang Jolo.' I’m from the north; two of our teammates are from the outskirts of Manila, and one is from Mindanao. You might think that we would not often see eye to eye; however, our team is the opposite of that. In our 2 years of working together, we have always meshed well like jam and butter. We have only met once in person – yet despite that, we are able to read each other’s minds well. Of course, it helps that we all have the same wavelength when it comes to opinions and jokes, and of course, we cannot discredit the ethics and dedication that we bring to the table at work every day. Our team values every member. We listen to what one has to say, and we empathize with how each of us feels. There is trust and respect as shown through the work we put in and the output that we have to show at the end of the day. There is leadership and initiative as portrayed by each one when I am on leave or when one of us is down. But most of all, there is love, unity, and friendship. Ours is an odd pairing of sorts – a Ybanag, a Tagalog, a Kapampangan, and a Bisaya. Truth be told, we always communicate in English, so there is no language barrier of sorts among us. But I believe what sets us apart and what keeps us motivated and strong as a team, aside from the fact that we love what we do, is the connection that we have with each other. Call it serendipity, call it whatever you want, but our team is solid. And there are no barriers between any of us – just laughter and that one constant thing we tell each other daily: 'Good job, guys!

In the following section, our team highlights the significance of showcasing our Cooee Values to elevate trusting relationships with our partners. Onboarding New Partners Cooee thrives on human connection and believes in helping others reach their full potential. Delivering efficiency and ensuring that our partners experience a smooth transition is something that we prioritize. When a new partner is introduced, an initial session is scheduled to set the expectations in terms of the process transition. This is done by introducing the Transition pack to the new partner. The pack contains transition items and the training plan for the new resource. Newly onboarded partners entrust Cooee with their processes and information; hence, we do our utmost to ensure all the data shared with us is treated with confidentiality. Cooee also provides new clients with progress reports to keep the partners up to date. Transparency is key when it comes to building trust. Once the training commences, Cooee assists the partner in monitoring the performance of the resource. This is to guarantee optimal results and to assure that the overall processes can be executed with confidence and are ready to be handed over. Client Packs The Team Client Pack sparks conversations between Cooee and our partners. It consists of the following: Team Members, KPIs, Cooee Newsletters, and Open Roles. This pack is designed to keep our partners informed, engaged, and updated on all aspects of our team's progress and opportunities. An updated list of the team directory is included for quick access to members' contact information. The KPIs highlight all the team’s achievements, and resolved process issues are compiled in this document. Our very own newsletter is also included in the pack to keep our partners informed about the team’s developments and recent events. A list of current open roles at Cooee is included to provide opportunities as our team continues to grow and progress. Trust forms the basis of strong relationships, and with the use of the client packs, we’ll be able to inspire each connection to reach new heights. It encourages a mutual understanding of roles, responsibilities, and expectations within the team. With this document, our partners can envision the value they will receive, fostering enthusiasm and commitment. Combining authenticity with the transparency facilitated by the client pack contributes to building trust over time. Process Presentation “The Importance of Connection Towards Innovation” In an exciting display of innovation and collaboration, Imagineers recently presented their latest achievements and upcoming plans to an extended leadership team. These projects stand as a testament to the value of seeking assistance, leveraging information, and fostering teamwork for the benefit of not only the process owner but also the offshore partners. The basis of these projects is the commitment to help colleagues who have expressed the need for process optimization. By addressing these pain points, Imagineers sought to provide tangible benefits to the people who use these complex workflows. The overall goal was to free up valuable time, allowing employees to direct and focus the saved time on the following tasks. The presentation revolved around acknowledging the potential of seeking assistance. The bottom line was that this is not a sign of weakness, but a show of strength to identify when the process could be improved. Imagineers emphasized that the contribution of each team member is invaluable; their experience is the basis on which the optimization work is built. Listeners were reminded that the way forward begins with open discussions and a willingness to accept support. The presented projects were created with the help of submitted data, open-source media, and lots of trial-and-error. These actions are necessary to improve the overall experience of the optimized process for everyone involved. What really set the presentation apart was its interactive nature. Participants were encouraged to provide feedback and submit their ideas for possible future projects. It encouraged ownership and participation and fostered a culture where every voice counts. Actively participating in the development of these projects, employees saw firsthand the impact of their collaboration on the organization. Through this presentation, Imagineers showed that the journey to process improvement is not a solitary endeavor, but a shared journey in which each member plays an important role.

    Buwan ng Wika, celebrated annually every August in the country, aims to promote our national language and other regional languages that form an integral part of our national identity. Language, being the bedrock of communication, plays a vital role in human interaction and understanding. Here at Cooee, we stand by our tagline: “Making every conversation count.” This tagline carries immense significance as we are all interconnected in an incredibly diverse world. It encapsulates the idea of effective communication, which serves as a bridge of understanding and appreciation across diverse cultures. Translating the essence of Buwan ng Wika into the workplace can yield numerous benefits. To begin, celebrating cultural identity in a professional setting nurtures a sense of inclusivity and belonging among employees. Through cultural presentations, workshops, and discussions, employees can learn about various traditions, languages, and customs. Just before this week, our in-house Autonomy team organized a fun and interactive activity during our Cooee Unplug Series. This included translating English to Tagalog, a brief quiz centered around personalities who champion and cherish our language, and some lighthearted memes to conclude the event. These activities deepen our comprehension and appreciation of our language and underscore that embracing cultural observances in the workplace contributes to a more inclusive and culturally aware environment. Such an environment allows employees to thrive and collaborate harmoniously. Furthermore, celebrating Buwan ng Wika can motivate employees to enhance their language skills, whether in Tagalog or English. This presents an opportunity for them to refine their ability to articulate ideas, collaborate effectively, and negotiate skillfully. Consequently, clearer communication reduces misunderstandings and facilitates smoother interactions, contributing to increased productivity and teamwork.     "Kaon ta." "Mangan tamo." "Kain tayo." There are many ways to say "let's eat" at our dining table. Growing up in a household where diverse dialects are spoken is truly a unique and enriching experience. My family, composed of a Bisaya-speaking father, a Kapampangan-speaking mother, and a community predominantly speaking Hiligaynon, has created a linguistic mosaic within our home. As a result, Tagalog has become our common language of communication. This rich tapestry of dialects has bestowed upon me the advantage of understanding and appreciating multiple languages, which has proven to be a valuable asset throughout my life. Living in a linguistically diverse home has broadened my perspective and ignited a deep appreciation for the distinct cultures represented in our family circle. Through the conversations at our dinner table or the playful banter with family members, I am constantly exposed to the intricacies and tones of each dialect. From the colorful idioms of Bisaya to the melodious intonation of Hiligaynon and Kapampangan, I have developed a keen ear for the beauty that lies within each language. This lingual harmony extends beyond our home and into the community, where we interact with friends and relatives who predominantly speak Hiligaynon, Ilonggo, or Muslim dialects within South Cotabato and nearby provinces. As a Mindanaoan, it is an advantage to be exposed to diverse dialects and languages through celebrating each other's languages, exchanging stories, songs, traditions, and food that build our understanding and admiration for one another. The diversity of dialects doesn't come without challenges, however. Just like the rest of the islands in the country, there are other ethnic groups, tribes, and indigenous peoples' cultures mixed in our own culture. It requires constant efforts to ensure effective communication in different settings. Understanding and speaking several dialects not only broaden our cultural horizons but also help us forge connections and bridge gaps in communities where one dialect may dominate. Mindanao, an island of vibrant cultures and languages, is a testament to the beauty of diversity and the power of language to bring people together. It is our duty to celebrate and preserve this legacy for future generations, to cherish the multilingual symphony that echoes through our households, and to savor the richness of our cultural inheritance.

I've learned to see things others might miss and hear what's not being said. In Cooee's coaching, it's essential for both the coach and the person being coached to listen and participate. Sharing and receiving feedback openly is crucial for progress. Encouragement plays a big role too, helping the person being coached set clear goals. As a coach, I've found it important to practice what I preach, especially when coachees seek advice for my own personal and professional development. Sharing my relevant experiences during coaching sessions has been very effective. It builds trust and encourages coachees to open up. Using light-hearted conversations also makes them feel more comfortable. I'm still learning to pick up on the mood of the conversation, so I can guide it in the right direction. Cooee's coaching has been a profound learning journey for me. Seeing the transformative impact of meaningful conversations, authentic connections, and unwavering support has been truly inspiring. I continue to evolve as a coach, striving to create a positive and lasting impact on the lives of those I work with. Cooee's coaching approach is refreshing and powerful, leading to personal growth for both the coach and the coachee.     As a recent hire of Cooee , I was both excited and apprehensive when I received an unexpected invitation to host the Recooeennect 2.0 . Being a nooee , I hadn't anticipated such an opportunity to present itself so soon. It felt like I was stepping into uncharted territory. Nevertheless, I embraced the challenge with open arms, determined to make the most of this unique experience. I explore the journey of hosting, diving into the joys and challenges that come with it, and how it can profoundly impact me on this Cooee journey. Behind the Curtain: Fear of the Unknown In the days leading up to the event, a whirlwind of emotions swept through me. On one hand, I felt thrilled to be entrusted with a role that involved engaging with everyone. On the other hand, I was anxious about whether I could live up to the expectations of being an excellent and engaging host. Nonetheless, I dedicated time to prepare and practice for hosting, hoping to find a balance between professionalism and approachability. As the day of the party arrived, I could feel my nerves acting up. Trying to quell my anxiety, I reminded myself of the support I had from my colleagues and the fact that they believed in my abilities. Armed with cue cards and a script to guide me through the evening's program, I stood at the center stage, ready to embark on this exhilarating journey. Connecting with the Crowd: Learning and Growth I had limited personal connections within the company, but during my preparations, I had familiarized myself with notable achievements and milestones of the company. During the preparation process, Engagement Team has always been on the lead —providing us with invaluable insights and support throughout the process. Ef and I even went through their meticulous rehearsals. As the day of the event finally arrived, a mix of excitement and nervousness coursed through my veins. Doubts resurfaced, and I questioned whether I had prepared adequately. But authenticity goes a long way in connecting with the crowd. Despite the fear, I put on a genuine smile and embraced the challenge before me. The event lasted for hours. It was a celebration and acknowledgement of hard work of different individuals, praising their accomplishments and dedication. It also showcased the company's culture of appreciation and teamwork. This in turns, resonates with everyone and in me. The encouragement and positive feedback boosted my self-assurance, eroding the self-doubt that had initially plagued me. I realized that stepping out of my comfort zone had allowed me to discover untapped potential and strengths. The Aftermath: An Experience to Look Back Looking back on this hosting experience, I can confidently say that it was a defining moment in my journey. Through a thorough preparation and an openness to learning from challenges, a nooee like me, successfully embarked the event, leaving behind a trail of unforgettable experience. Most importantly, I discovered the strength that come from embracing the spotlight, connecting with an audience and owning’s one abilities.
